Tim Walz and JD Vance will face each other on the debate stage Tuesday night, with both vice presidential nominees aiming to further introduce themselves to voters and draw a contrast between their visions for the country.
The debate will be hosted by CBS News in its New York studios at 9 p.m. ET, without a live audience. MSNBC will simulcast the debate live, with prime-time coverage beginning at 7 p.m. ET, and MSNBC’s live blog will provide updates and expert analysis in real time.
Two of CBS News’ veteran anchors, Norah O’Donnell of “CBS Evening News” and Margaret Brennan of “Face the Nation,” will be the moderators.

MSNBC will simulcast the debate live, with prime-time coverage beginning at 7 p.m. ET. The debate may help sway the critical undecided voters whom both campaigns are hoping to win over. Polls have shown Kamala Harris and Donald Trump neck and neck in battleground states, setting up an election that could be decided by potentially razor-thin margins in a handful of states. Walz and Vance have hit the campaign trail hard since being chosen as running mates, and they each have served a different function for their ticket. Walz, the governor of Minnesota, was selected in part to broaden the Democratic campaign’s appeal among voters who are unsure about Harris. Meanwhile, Vance, a U.S. senator representing Ohio, is largely seen as someone who can shore up Trump’s support among his base. Although most voters surveyed have said they are unfamiliar with either VP candidate, polls have consistently shown that more voters have a favorable view of Walz than they do of Vance. Part of that may be due to resurfaced remarks by Vance about women and families, comments that have led to widespread and persistent backlash. Walz, on the other hand, has been targeted by Republicans, but those attacks have not quite caught on outside of conservative circles.
