Donald Trump will be inaugurated as president on Monday, marking the return of one of the most unorthodox and radical politicians in the modern era to the highest seat of power.

The inauguration ceremony is expected to begin at approximately 11:30 a.m. ET with Trump’s swearing-in set to take place around noon. Several other events are scheduled to follow, including a signing ceremony, an inaugural luncheon, a presidential parade, and inaugural balls.

Instead of the West Front of the U.S. Capitol, the swearing-in ceremony and Trump’s inauguration speech will take place inside the Capitol rotunda, denying him the opportunity to address a large crowd on the National Mall.

Those expected to attend the inauguration include some of the country’s richest tech executives and far-right populist leaders from abroad. There will be a few notable absences as well; former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and former first lady Michelle Obama have said they will not attend.
Country music star Carrie Underwood will perform “America the Beautiful,” and opera singer Christopher Macchio will sing the national anthem. Singer Lee Greenwood, known best for “God Bless the USA,” also is expected to perform. Trump supporters who have traveled to Washington for the inauguration will be directed to Capital One Arena, a 20,000-person venue in downtown D.C., for a simulcast viewing. Some are upset at the decision to move the events indoors. “We might as well stay at home and watch it on TV. I’m kind of disappointed, to be honest with you,” Oklahoma resident Ken Robinson told NBC News. “We came here to watch it in person. We don’t really care to watch it on a jumbotron.”
