Today’s installment of campaign-related news items from across the country.
* In the 2024 election cycle, Elon Musk donated $288 million to help put Republicans in power. Now, the billionaire is so outraged by the GOP’s megabill that he’s prepared to invest in a new political party if the legislation passes Congress.
* On a related note, Musk declared via social media: “Every member of Congress who campaigned on reducing government spending and then immediately voted for the biggest debt increase in history should hang their head in shame! And they will lose their primary next year if it is the last thing I do on this Earth.”
* In Texas, Colin Allred, a former Democratic congressman and former NFL linebacker, ran a competitive Senate race last year against Republican Sen. Ted Cruz. Now, Allred is trying again, launching a new Senate race, eying the seat currently held by Republican John Cornyn.
* In South Dakota, Republican Rep. Dusty Johnson announced this week that he’s giving up his seat on Capitol Hill to run for governor next year.
