Today’s installment of campaign-related news items from across the country.
* In Virginia, where Republican Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears has been waiting for Donald Trump to endorse her gubernatorial candidacy, she’s run out of time: The president held a tele-rally for the state party the night before Election Day, but he didn’t say her name out loud. Similarly, Trump published several online messages about the commonwealth’s elections, but none of the posts mentioned his party’s nominee.
* In New York City’s mayoral race, meanwhile, Trump threw his support behind former Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who’s running as an independent. Republican megadonor Elon Musk also endorsed Cuomo shortly before Election Day.
* Speaking of the president, Trump’s closing message to Virginia’s and New Jersey’s electorate said those who back Democrats “WILL RUE THE DAY THAT YOU VOTED TO DESTROY YOUR LIFE.”
* In Florida’s gubernatorial race, Jerry Demings, the mayor of Orange County and a former local sheriff, kicked off a statewide bid this week. He’ll face former Rep. David Jolly in a Democratic primary.
* The list of congressional retirements continues to grow: Democratic Rep. Jesús “Chuy” García of Illinois, who appeared to be on track to run for another term, reversed course shortly before the filing deadline.
* In Kentucky, Trump formally endorsed Ed Gallrein’s primary campaign against Republican Rep. Thomas Massie, whom the president referred to as “weak and pathetic” in his latest offensive. Trump and his political operation played a prominent role in recruiting Gallrein to seek the seat.
* And a year before the 2026 midterm elections, a handful of new national polls show Democrats leading Republicans on the generic congressional ballot, but by assorted margins: NBC News’ poll found Democrats ahead by eight points; CNN’s poll showed the party up by five points; and a Washington Post-ABC News-Ipsos poll found the Democratic advantage at just two points.
