Today’s installment of campaign-related news items from across the country.
* NBC News’ latest national poll found Kamala Harris leading Donald Trump among registered voters, 49% to 44%. The latest national CBS News poll, meanwhile, found the Democratic vice president ahead of the Republican former president among likely voters, 52% to 48%. (The margin of error in the NBC poll was plus or minus 3.1 percentage points. The margin of error in the CBS poll was plus or minus 2.1 percentage points.)
* The latest New York Times/Siena College polls found Trump with modest leads over Harris in Arizona, Georgia and North Carolina. (The margins of error varied by state. Click the link for more detailed information.)
* 2024 polling is no longer on the horizon: Early voting began late last week in South Dakota, Virginia and Minnesota.
* In his latest interview with a conservative host, Trump told Sharyl Attkisson he doesn’t intend to run again in 2028 if he comes up short in 2024. “No, I think that that will be, that will be it,” the Republican nominee said. “I don’t see that at all.” Then again, Trump says a lot of things, so I’d take this with a grain of salt.
* A super PAC called the Future Coalition PAC, which appears to have Republican ties, is running ads in Michigan accusing Harris of being pro-Israel, while simultaneously running ads in Pennsylvania accusing Harris of being anti-Israel.
* The Trump campaign raised $43 million in August, while the Harris campaign raised $190 million in August. This does not, however, include super PACs that are loosely affiliated with the major-party nominees, and which continue to collect significant amounts of money.
* On a related note, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee also easily outraised its Republican counterparts in August, despite the fact that the GOP currently has a majority in the House.
