Today’s installment of campaign-related news items from across the country.
* With a week remaining before Virginia’s gubernatorial race, the latest Suffolk University poll found former Democratic Rep. Abigail Spanberger leading Republican Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears, 52% to 43%. The latest Washington Post-Schar School poll, meanwhile, found the Democratic nominee with a 12-point advantage, 54% to 42%.
* With a week remaining before New Jersey’s gubernatorial race, the latest Rutgers University-Eagleton poll found Democratic Rep. Mikie Sherrill ahead of Republican Assemblyman Jack Ciattarelli, 50% to 45%.
* On a related note, Donald Trump said Sherrill has an “unusual name” and that he’d campaign with Ciattarelli after he returns from a trip to Asia, though as The Associated Press reported, “no concrete plans have been announced.”
* Under White House pressure, Indiana’s Republican governor, Mike Braun, has called for a special legislative session to gerrymander the state’s district map. Although there’s been weeks of resistance among GOP lawmakers in the state, the president expects Indiana’s Republican majority to deliver one more U.S. House seat for the party.
