Today’s installment of campaign-related news items from across the country.
* With just six weeks remaining before Election Day in Virginia, and with early voting already underway in the commonwealth, the latest poll from Christopher Newport University found former Rep. Abigail Spanberger, a Democrat, with a 12-point lead over Republican Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears in this year’s gubernatorial race, 52% to 40%.
* On a related note, Earle-Sears still wants, but hasn’t received, Donald Trump’s formal endorsement. Asked Friday whether he’d be willing to campaign for GOP candidates with time running out, the president responded: “Well, I’m going to have to look at some of them.”
* New Jersey’s gubernatorial race is also six weeks away, and the latest Quinnipiac University poll found Democratic Rep. Mikie Sherrill leading former Assemblyman Jack Ciattarelli, a Republican, 49% to 41%.
* And speaking of polling, the latest Washington Post-Ipsos survey found Democrats leading Republicans on the generic congressional ballot, 53% to 44%, among registered voters.
