Today’s installment of campaign-related news items from across the country.
* When Andrew Cuomo resigned as governor of New York four years ago, it seemed obvious at the time that his political career had run its course. The Democrat nevertheless announced on Saturday that he’s entering the mayoral race in New York City.
* Ahead of Donald Trump’s address to a joint session of Congress, two progressive groups are launching a new ad targeting the president’s economic agenda. NBC News reported that the commercial from the groups Families Over Billionaires and Unrig Our Economy, will air on Fox News’ “Fox and Friends” and will feature a Trump voter asking him not to “cut taxes for billionaires.”
* The latest PBS News/NPR/Marist poll is the latest national survey to show Trump “underwater,” with an approval rating of 45%. The latest CNN poll, released over the weekend, showed the Republican’s standing a bit better at 48%, though like the PBS News/NPR/Marist survey, his disapproval rating is higher than his approval rating. * As former Sen. Sherrod Brown eyes a possible comeback bid, the Ohio Democrat has a new essay in The New Republic on the party’s future and its policy agenda.
