After U.S. intelligence concluded with “high certainty” that forces directed by Syrian President Bashar al-Assad had used chemical weapons against the rebels, President Obama this week pledged to increase support to the Syrian rebels.
Going into the G8 meetings, it is expected that Obama will continue coordinating with the British and French on increasing assistance, both lethal and non-lethal, to the rebels. U.S. officials have not disclosed any details about the type of weapons they intend to provide the rebels or how they plan on getting them there.
