Sarah Palin confessed she has been taken “aback” by some of Pope Francis’ “kind of liberal” comments.
“It’s kind of surprised me,” Palin said during an interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper.
The outspoken conservative and “born-again” Christian said she’s trying to follow the new pope’s “agenda,” but, not surprisingly, she questioned the so-called lamestream media’s interpretation of his message.
“I’m surprised that he came out with a couple of things in the media. But then again I’m not one to trust the media’s interpretation of somebody’s message,” said the former Republican vice presidential hopeful.
Palin added: “Unless I really dig deep into what his messaging is and do my own homework, I’m not going to just trust what I hear in the media.”
The Pope’s comments on social issues have raised many eyebrows – to the delight of many progressives and LGBT activists, giving them a sign of hope the Roman Catholic Church may be softening some of its long-held stances. “If someone is gay, who searches for the Lord and has goodwill, who am I to judge?” Pope Francis has said, addressing one of the church’s most divisive issues head on. He has also touted the need to place a greater emphasis on the important role women play in the Church, according to an interview with the Pope published in America, a Jesuit magazine. Palin’s on the road promoting the release of her new book, Good Tidings and Great Joy: Protecting the Heart of Christmas.
