Today, Karen Handel resigned from her post as senior vice president for public policy at the Komen Foundation. Some believe she was the driving force behind the Komen Foundation’s decision to stop funding Planned Parenthood — a decision the charity later reversed last week after public protest.
In her statement, Handel maintained that ending funding to Planned Parenthood was the right decision, writing, “I am deeply disappointed by the gross mischaracterizations of the strategy, its rationale, and my involvement in it. I openly acknowledge my role in the matter and continue to believe our decision was the best one for Komen’s future and the women we serve.”
