“Game of Thrones” author George R.R. Martin has written an online post calling for the refugees of violence in Syria to be let into the United States noting, “The Syrian refugees are as much victims of ISIS as the dead in France.”
The post, which was published to the author’s Live Journal blog, also cites the Emma Lazarus poem, “The New Colossus,” which is best known as the poem featured on the base of the Statue of Liberty.

Others have cited the poem in recent days to argue for allowing Syrian refugees into the US, most notably this passage:
Give me your tired, your poor,Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Martin, who also serves as writer and co-executive producer on the HBO series about his books, wrote that Lady Liberty and Lazarus’s words “represent the best of what this nation of immigrants is all about.” He then chided the governors and members of Congress across the country who are against allowing Syrian refugees into America, questioning whether they understand the poem.
