Former Arizona Congresswoman Gabby Giffords just reached another milestone. Still in recovery from being shot in the head last year, she traveled high up into the French Alps on Monday with the help of her husband, retired NASA astronaut Mark Kelly. She rode a cable car to an outlook point with views of peaks in France, Italy and Switzerland.
The couple made the high-altitude trek in connection with the unveiling of a plate to mark the 100th anniversary of the discovery of cosmic rays by Victor Hess.
The Democrat resigned from her House seat in January, more than one year after sustaining wounds from a shooting spree at a Tucson parking lot. Six people died in the attack. She is currently undergoing intensive therapy to improve her mobility and speech.
