Rep. Paul Ryan blamed President Obama for a lack of leadership on fiscal issues in a post-election interview with his local paper.
Ryan, who won re-election to Congress while losing the larger race, said he wants “to be part of the solution,” to the fiscal cliff negotiations but it’s the president who needs to take action.
“We’re hopeful that the president will begin to show some leadership on this and some other issues so that we can begin to get common ground,” Ryan told The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
Ryan, chair of the House Budget Committee also called on both parties to bring “specific ideas” to the negotiating table, not just rhetoric. He described the country as “divided.”
The congressman described the Romney-Ryan hotel suite the night the Republican ticket lost the presidential election as “pretty sad.” But asked by the Sentinel if the loss meant voters had rejected the Republican vision for the country, Ryan refused defeat and jabbed back that only certain pockets of the country were with President Obama. Well, he got turnout. The president should get credit for achieving record-breaking turnout numbers from urban areas for the most part, and that did win the election for him.
