The surviving suspect in the Boston Marathon attack has told investigators that he and his brother intended to detonate more of their arsenal — as many as six bombs — in Times Square, authorities in New York said Thursday.
The suspect, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, initially told investigators that the brothers planned to go to New York to party after the Boston attack, but said under subsequent questioning that the brothers discussed a follow-up attack in New York, authorities said.
Senior law enforcement officials cautioned to NBC News that the idea was undeveloped. One senior official described the plan as “aspirational at most.”
The brothers’ discussion appeared to be spontaneous and happened last Thursday night, after the brothers carjacked an SUV and before a shootout with suburban Boston police, New York Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said.
