Sen. Saxby Chambliss, R-Ga., is expected to announce his retirement Friday. The announcement comes as a number of Republicans have expressed interest in challenging the two-term senior senator from Georgia.
Before news of Sen. Chambliss’ retirement broke, Chuck Todd spoke with Rep. Tom Price, R-Ga., on The Daily Rundown Thursday.
Asked if Price would challenge Chambliss in a primary, the Republican congressman said the decision was “too premature at this point.”
However, after being pressed by Chuck, Price did not rule out a potential run saying, “if opportunity knocks, then you have to open the door.”
The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee quickly weighed in on the Georgia senate seat. In a paper statement, the DSCC said, “Georgia will now offer Democrats one of our best pick-up opportunities of the cycle. There are already several reports of the potential for a divisive primary that will push Republicans to the extreme right. This will be a top priority.” You can watch Chuck’s full interview with Rep.
