Today’s installment of campaign-related news items from across the country.
* With 95 days remaining before Election Day, Donald Trump’s re-election campaign has pulled effectively all of its broadcast advertising, as the Republican operation undertakes “a review and fine-tuning of the campaign’s strategy.”
* In Kansas’ closely watched Republican U.S. Senate primary, GOP leaders have urged Trump to endorse Rep. Roger Marshall over Kris Kobach. The president has instead decided to remain neutral — which is exactly what Democrats were hoping for.
* Sen. Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.) confirmed yesterday that she’s been interviewed by Joe Biden’s team as part of the vetting process for the party’s vice presidential nomination.
* In 2020 polling, surveys from the last day or so show Biden up by 10 points in Minnesota, four points in Florida, nine points in Pennsylvania, and seven points in New Hampshire.
* Speaking of the Granite State, the University of New Hampshire’s latest poll also found incumbent Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D) and Gov. Chris Sununu (R) with large leads over their respective rivals. * Business Insider reports that while Robert and Rebekah Mercer were among Trump’s key backers four years ago, “they’ve all but abandoned the embattled president and aren’t likely to help him in the home stretch for 2020.” * And the Wall Street Journal reports that Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.) is already lining up support to lead the National Republican Senatorial Committee during the 2022 midterms, which would leave him well positioned ahead of a rumored 2024 presidential campaign.
