Newt Gingrich, the one-time Republican candidate for president who traded sharp barbs with presumptive nominee Mitt Romney, will not have a solo speaking slot on the stage at the Republican National Convention later this month—but he’s not bothered by it.
Instead, Gingrich, also a former speaker of the House, will host “Newt University” during the convention in Tampa later this month.
Appearing on Morning Joe Thursday, Gingrich said he negotiated for the university slot, because it appeals to the “teacher side of me.” The Republican politician was a professor of geography and history for several years in the 1970s.
