The spiritual leader of the Muslim Brotherhood, the political group aligned with deposed President Mohammed Morsi, was arrested on Tuesday according to state television.
“It has raised the stakes again after the military arrested the leader of the Muslim Brotherhood,” NBC’s Ayman Mohyeldin told the Daily Rundown’s Chuck Todd.
According to NBC News the organization’s “Supreme Guide,” Mohamed Badie was captured by security officials and charged with inciting violence. His trial is scheduled for Aug. 25.
“The fact that he was taken into custody and somewhat paraded on a private media channel here is going to anger his supporters,” NBC’s Ayman Mohyeldin said.
