Morial Convention Center where the National Association of Free and Charitable Clinics will be operating a free clinic that will help care for people who have no health insurance. Why should I help?
With Republican lawmakers in both Louisiana and nearby Texas rejecting the Affordable Care Act’s Medicaid expansion program, more than a billion dollars in federal funds has been kept from the states and the people they serve. That means more than a million people who would get care under the program have limited options right now. This clinic gives those people a way to get care. The organizers typically find about 80% of patients who attend their free clinics could be called “working poor” — people who have jobs and work hard, but still don’t have health insurance for one reason or another. In order to help give those people what is sometimes life-saving health care, NAFC needs volunteers and donations. If you need more reasons, check out more of our coverage of this important issue.
