Former Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin is launching a website dedicated to her own quirky form of conservative politics, the Sarah Palin Channel, as an alternative to the news media she famously dubbed the ‘lamestream media.’
“Are you tired of the media filters? Well, I am! I always have been. So we’re going to do something about it,” Palin said in the video introduction. “Together, we’ll go beyond the sound bites and cut through the media’s politically correct filter.”
Palin announced the website late Sunday, describing the website as both an alternative to the mainstream media and a digital home for all things Palin. In her announcement, she derided the media for their bias.
The “community” Palin has planned comes at a price: $9.95 a month or $99 for the year — steeper than a Netflix membership. The website and discussion are for members only, though members can share Palin’s videos and they’ll be viewable from social networks. Active duty military members will be allowed to subscribe for free, the site’s FAQ adds.
The website will consist of video chats between the former Alaska governor, behind the scenes videos on her events and family life, as well as guest interviews with leading conservatives, Palin said. The site also includes a national debt calculator, a countdown clock to the end of Obama’s presidency, and features such as the word of the day. Palin is no stranger to broadcasting the folksy brand that catapulted her to fame in 2008 when she was selected from relative obscurity as Alaska’s governor to Sen. John McCain’s vice presidential pick: in 2010, her reality television series “Sarah Palin’s Alaska” broadcast on TLC, lasting just one season; her second show, “Amazing America with Sarah Palin” premiered on the Sportsman Channel earlier this year. It was recently renewed for another season.
