Intelligence Committee chairman Rep. Mike Rogers joined the Morning Joe panel on Thursday to make the case for more U.S. involvement in Syria, arguing that training and organizing efforts could prevent more serious conflicts in the future.
“If we know they’re putting chemical weapons into a position to be used, and they’re certainly used, and we have the capability to make sure they don’t, I’d argue we have a moral obligation,” he said on Thursday’s Morning Joe, arguing the that training and vetting opposition forces would help the rebel’s success. “This is not the United States doing the fighting, it’s just bringing those special capabilities.”
He continued: “I don’t think we should idly sit by if we have the capability without big U.S. involvement. This is the difference. This isn’t Iraq, it’s not Afghanistan, this is a much smaller, much more effective way to rally the Arab League and make them more effective in protecting those weapon systems and bring the Assad regime to an end.”
