Melissa Harris-Perry is talking about icebergs this weekend! No, not the pesky ship-sinking kind–but rather the government constructed monstrosities that don’t seem like they can do much damage, until you see their full size. That’s right: we are talking about the sequester.
The first round of sequester cuts went into effect in March, and though they have been felt by the American people, this year’s cuts are only the tip of the iceberg. Saturday’s show will dive below the surface to uncover the damage the sequester will cause in 2014 should we allow the cuts to continue. Host Melissa Harris-Perry will be joined by a woman who will be testifying before Congress on the effects of the sequester cuts next week. Our guest, Dierdre, was featured in the recently-released HBO documentary “American Winter,” which chronicles the story of eight families hit by the Great Recession.
#nerdland will also dive deep on what the men of Fox Business News apparently think is the looming destruction of society. A new Pew Research Study that finds that 40% of women in households with children are now the sole or primary breadwinner. Just why are these conservative men so scared of a world in which women are on top? (By the way, you’ll want to check this out. Wow.)
Oh, yes–and Harris-Perry will discuss why women running for office–like Rep. Tulsi Gabbard of Hawaii, seen above–is not just a good thing, but necessary. Check out this msnbc article from this week about the woman not named Ashley Judd who might take down Sen. Mitch McConnell in Kentucky.
