Tagg Romney, the oldest son of former presidential candidate Mitt Romney, says he and his family had just left the Boston Red Sox game a mile away at Fenway Park when the twin explosions occurred.
“It’s such a cowardly thing to do,” Romney told Chris Jansing near the scene of the attack. “And then you watch the scenes of the first responders rushing in and the bystanders pulling down the flags and getting things out of the way and rushing to help, people running to the hospital to give blood. It’s a horrible tragedy but it’s wonderful to see the goodness of Americans and how generous they are and how brave we are.”
Romney said his children had a tough time sleeping Monday night. He told Jansing & Co. he tried to assure them. “We’re going to come together as a country. We will defeat whoever it is that’s trying to attack us. We don’t know who it is yet but I’m sure we’ll get to the bottom of it and we’ll be stronger as a nation.”
Romney said shortly after the attack, he got separate phone calls from his father Mitt and mother Ann, who were at different locations at the time. He said his parents checked to make sure everyone was OK and talked about the tragedy that occurred on one of the biggest holidays in Boston.
