It’s official: former White House Chief of Staff Bill Daley has announced he’s forming an exploratory campaign to run for governor of Illinois.
Daley used a common saying from the Obama administration to announce his candidacy—”We can’t wait”—in a video on his website.
If he throws his hat into the race, Daley would be challenging incumbent Gov. Pat Quinn in the Democratic primary. A Public Policy Poll from November 2012 showed Quinn had an approval rating of just 25%, making him the least popular governor in the country. The same poll showed that a match up between Daley and Quinn would put Daley on top by 3 points, 37 to 34.
