Today’s installment of campaign-related news items from across the country.
* Echoing a vow he made months ago, Joe Biden told reporters yesterday he’ll announce his 2020 running mate next week. “I’m going to have a choice in the first week in August, and I promise I’ll let you know when I do,” the former vice president told reporters.
* On a related note, there’s a great deal of speculation surrounding Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.), who occasionally clashed with Biden during her candidacy last year. During his Q&A with reporters yesterday, the Delaware Democrat held handwritten notes that included visible talking points that referenced Harris. At the top of the list: “Do not hold grudges.”
* In Georgia, a new Monmouth poll found Biden tied with Donald Trump in the state, with each garnering 47% support. This comes on the heels of a Public Policy Polling survey that found the former vice president up by one point in the state, 46% to 45%. Four years ago, the Republican ticket carried Georgia by five points.
* The same poll out of Georgia found incumbent Sen. David Perdue (R) leading Jon Ossoff (D), 49% to 43%.
