Pennsylvania Democratic Rep. Matt Cartwright says Congress being on vacation while the sequester looms is “like the airplane we are flying is going down and we are watching the in-flight movie.”
Cartwright, who is serving his first year in Congress, says he and fellow freshmen on both sides of the aisle agree the nation has a spending issue, but since the economy is in a fragile recovery, now is not the right time for crippling indiscriminate cuts across the board.
