Presumed Republican nominee Mitt Romney got a bit more detailed over the weekend on several key subjects during a backyard speech with private donors in Palm Beach, Florida. The speech was heard on a sidewalk below by reporters including NBC News’s Garrett Haake who will be on tonight’s edition of The Last Word to talk more about what Romney said.
But one thing of many worth noting from the NBC News report is this passage:
The former governor also addressed how he might make strides toward winning back Hispanic voters, another crucial voting bloc with whom he and other Republicans lag, according to recent polls.
Predicting that immigration would become a much larger issue in the fall campaign, Romney told his audience, “We have to get Hispanic voters to vote for our party,” warning that recent polling showing Hispanics breaking in huge percentages for President Obama “spells doom for us.”
One reason Team Romney must be now worried about this crucial voting bloc is the electoral math for this November, something hinted at by the polls cited. If Latino voters in swing states vote Democratic in large numbers, it could indeed spell “doom” for Romney’s White House chances.
