San Diego’s city council heard from a high-profile resident who spoke about a zoning issue during the municipal public meeting Tuesday. Ann Romney, the wife of Mitt Romney, raised her concerns about inefficient construction permits during the public comment section of Tuesday night’s city council meeting.
Ann Romney expressed her disapproval for the city’s current procedure for coastal development construction permits.
“I urge you to make sure that stronger protections are put in place so that in the future, permits are processed efficiently and correctly, and the public is afforded the proper notice and opportunity to be heard,” Romney said.
As Mitt and Ann Romney continue to renovate their $12 million, 3,000-square-foot beachfront home in La Jolla, Ann Romney is apparently frustrated by delays in processing permits that have slowed her home renovation. The Romneys first lobbied for a permit in 2010, hoping to tear down the 76-year-old home and replace it with a house nearly three times its original size, including plans for a car elevator, an outdoor shower, and more than 3,600 feet of underground living space. The Romneys’ plans for their La Jolla home became a target during the 2012 presidential campaign, and neighbors in the exclusive town complained about the expansion. Two of Mitt Romney’s neighbors, Randy Clark and Tom Maddox, joined msnbc’s The Last Word with Lawrence O’Donnell last year to discuss having to deal with the Romneys’ noisy construction project.
