President Barack Obama said that the government was investigating Monday’s bombings at the Boston Marathon as an act of terrorism.
The president said that authorities were still not able to identify the individual or groups — be they foreign or domestic — responsible for Monday’s attack at the finish line of the high-profile sporting event, but that investigators were treating it as a terrorist attack.
“This was a heinous and cowardly act, and, given what we now know about what took place, the FBI is investigating it as an act of terrorism,” Obama said in a statement in the White House briefing room. “And anytime bombs are used to target innocent civilians, it is an act of terror.”
