The Summer Olympics Games are underway in London, and Mitt Romney’s wife, Ann, has made it there with her horse, Rafalca, who is competing in dressage, one of the equestrian events.
We sincerely wish her the best of luck. But her husband is so intent on not sounding like a rich guy, he told NBC News’ Brian Williams that he’s skipping the event.
“I have to tell you, this is Ann’s sport. I’m not even sure which day the sport goes on,” Romney said in an interview that aired on Nightly News on Wednesday. “She will get the chance to see it, I will not be watching the event.”
“I give him a pass when it comes to my horses because he’s so, so supportive of me, having to put up with my love of horses,’’ Ann said today on NBC’s TODAY show.
But Mitt may have to reverse himself (yes, again) to keep the peace in his marriage. It turns out her husband’s political opponent, President Barack Obama, now says he’s interested in watching “every American entrant perform well,” including Rafalca. Asked if he would be watching the horse event, White House press Secretary Jay Carney said today “if his schedule allows, i think the answer is yes.”
