Mitt Romney says he can’t remember if he ever paid less than the 13.9 percent tax rate he paid in 2010.
“I haven’t calculated that,” Romney told ABC News over the weekend. “I’m happy to go back and look but my view is I’ve paid all the taxes required by law.”
We’ll just have to trust Romney on that because he’s only released two years of tax returns and absolutely refuses to turn over any more.
But now, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid says he knows why Romney is keeping those tax returns locked up.
Reid tells The Huffington Post that about a month ago a Bain capital investor called his office.
Referring to Romney, the investor reportedly told Reid: “Harry, he didn’t pay any taxes for 10 years.”
“He didn’t pay taxes for 10 years!,” Reid said. “Now, do I know that that’s true? Well, I’m not certain. But obviously he can’t release those tax returns. How would it look? Reid, the highest ranked Democrat in Congress, would not say who the investor was.
