When it comes to viral video sensations of 2012, none can compare to Psy’s “Gangnam Style.” Ask anyone – chances are they‘ve heard the catchy lyrics and seen the offbeat dance moves.
From a Filipino prison to the US Naval Academy, “Gangnam Style” has been recreated and spoofed worldwide, with fans carefully mimicking the intricate galloping horse and comical pelvic thrusts.
But what happens when it’s applied to the political arena? You get “Mitt Romney Style.”
Earlier this month, College Humor posted a video spoofing the Romney-Ryan candidacy, highlighting Mitt Romney’s immense wealth and making references to his Olympic steed, Rafalca, Bain Capital, and his hidden 47 percent video. In the video, a Romney impersonator urges viewers to “elect me cause I got so much mon-ay” as he carelessly throws cash to the floor.
After his memorable Jay Leno appearance, it’s about time Romney got his own music video. If you haven’t seen it yet, watch it below (WARNING: explicit language): Gangnam is a district in Seoul similar to Beverly Hills. However, people from Gangnam don’t dress, act, or sadly, dance like those featured in the music video. Instead, according to a CNN interview with Psy, the video is a means of “poking fun at those kinds of people who are trying so hard to be something that they’re not.” Could this be fitting to the Romney-Ryan candidacy with the presidential and vice presidential nominees unsuccessfully trying to appear as sympathetic heroes to the struggling American working class?
