A woman who worked for Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker when he was the Milwaukee County executive pleaded guilty today to misdemeanor charges of working on Walker’s gubernatorial campaign on county time.
Darlene Wink, 61, also agreed to cooperate with prosecutors in ongoing investigations of other associates close to Walker. As part of a plea agreement, prosecutors won’t recommend prison time.
When asked whether she would cooperate even if her information implicated Walker, defense attorney Peter Wolff said, “She’s agreed to provide any cooperation that’s necessary, yes.”
Wink was charged with two misdemeanor counts of political solicitation by a public employee.
The Cudahy resident admitted that she helped coordinate fundraiser events for Walker’s 2010 run for governor while she was supposed to be doing her job as a constituent-services coordinator. The guilty plea could give fresh ammunition to voters trying to recall Republican Walker over a law he championed curbing the powers of public sector unions.
