More than 15 million people have already voted, according to the Elections Project at George Mason University…and though many battleground states are not in the storm’s path, Sandy has already interrupted early voting in some states.
In Virginia – in-person absentee voting is permitted in cases where a voter will not be in the state on election day, or in case of disability or illness. Local election offices were closed Monday in some of the states largest counties, including Loudon County, Arlington County, and Fairfax County.
In North Carolina – coastal counties’ one-stop early voting sites were closed. In Maryland, early voting has been canceled for the second straight day. So far, Governor Martin O’Malley has scheduled only one make-up day, extending the early voting period through Friday.
And early voting has been suspended today in Morgan County, West Virginia. Parts of the state have already experienced more than 18 inches of snow.
