Liz Cheney’s very public spat with her sister over gay marriage has dominated her bid for Wyoming Senate the past week. But as she tries to move on in her campaign, she’s turning to other family members to help — her own daughters.
The GOP hopeful is launching a new television ad featuring her own kids, along with an accompanying blog her children will write, titled “On the Road With Mom.”
Cheney, the daughter of former vice president Dick Cheney, has reminisced about how she accompanied her own father on the campaign trail growing up in Wyoming as she hopes to unseat incumbent Sen. Mike Enzi (R-Wyo.). But it’s the feud with her sister, Mary, that’s become a distraction. After Liz Cheney reiterated her opposition to gay marriage, her sister Mary Cheney and her wife, Heather Poe, took to social media to blast Liz Cheney for her statements. Their parents weighed in, too, with a statement saying that they were “pained” by the public spat.
Liz Cheney’s new ad looks to turn the conversation from the family drama by highlighting her own children and husband. In the 30-second ad, her three daughters recount the Cheney family history in Wyoming that dates back to the 19th century.
