Did you know that if you calculate Congress’ wage it comes out to $70 an hour? That’s $62.75 higher than the national minimum wage.
Next Thursday, fast food workers nationwide are planning a national strike to call for the minimum wage to be raised to $15 an hour. “Obviously we should all aspire for people to make more than minimum wage–that’s the American dream,” Cycle co-host Abby Huntsman said on Tuesday’s show. “But these companies would say that’s capitalism, that’s supply and demand. If you are going to raise the minimum wage we’re just going to hire fewer people and that ultimately is not good for the economy.”
Huntsman suggested taking the issue to the states. “You look at places that are getting it right, like Washington State that now has a minimum wage above $9 an hour,” she said. “These folks that want to protest this, take it to your local county, your local districts. I think that’s where you can get the most at the end of the day.”
