On Tuesday, cities across the nation joined together to celebrate Veterans Day, a day when we honor those who have served or are serving to protect our freedom.
“It gives us an opportunity to pause and remember all the sacrifices that were made by ordinary citizens who did extraordinary things to defend our country,” said Bryan Bishop, chief of staff of Boston’s Department of Veterans’ Services.
Veterans Day was first celebrated in 1919 as Armistice Day and in 1954 it was renamed Veterans Day when President Eisenhower signed legislation changing the legal name of the day.
On Tuesday politicians took to social media to honor and thank all those who are protecting our country.
