With 20 days to go until we reach the fiscal cliff deadline all eyes are on Washington and whether or not the president and the GOP can reach a deal. Today the House is back in session for the next three days, but if a deal is not reached they have already been told by Rep. Eric Cantor (R-VA) that they will be in session next week so that a deal will be reached before the deadline. So, if Congress wants to be home for the holidays they need to reach a deal, have it approved by Congress, and on the president’s desk by the end of next week. Do we think this can actually happen?
On Sunday Speaker Boehner (R-OH) visited the White House for a face-to-face meeting with President Obama, the first between the two men in almost a month, where they discussed details on a new plan. While details of this new plan have not been released, in hopes not to leak any information both sides say the lines of communication remain open.
Yesterday, the president traveled to Michigan where he toured a Daimler diesel plant. He stepped in the “right to work” fight and also made remarks on the economy. His schedule for the next few days is quiet. He plans to remain in Washington in hopes of finalizing a deal before hitting the fiscal cliff deadline.
