The uproar of each goal, the squeal for each victory, and the wait for the next match to start has brought Americans across the world together through social media to share in every heart pounding moment of the WorldCup. According to Twitter statistics, there have been more than 300 million Tweets related to the #WorldCup since the games began on June 12.
While soccer fever may be driving Americans to tune into the match, a new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll reveals a majority of Americans (61%) have very little or no interest in the World Cup, compared to 22% who have a “great deal” or have “quite a bit” of interest. Another 17% of those polled say they have some interest in the match.
However, regardless of the level of interest in the match itself, 86% say they are backing the United States, with 8% say they are rooting for another country, and 6% not caring at all who wins.

As the U.S. Men’s Soccer teams gets ready to face Belgium at 4pm ET, social media timelines are beginning to be flooded with the minority of Americans who have a vested interest in the games and want to wish their team good luck.
