Former Washington Redskins player and two-time statewide conservative candidate Clint Didier is looking for a touchdown as he goes after a U.S. House seat.
The former tight end announced on Monday he will be running for the seat held by Rep. Doc Hastings in Washington’s 4th Congressional District. After the 10-term Represenative announced that he would not seek reelection last week, Didier said his phone was “instantly loaded with calls from supporters.”
“You have seen my Senate run, you have seen my lands commissioner run and my message has not changed,” Didier said Monday. “It’s the same. We have to get government under control.”
Didier, who won two Super Bowls with the Washington Redskins in the 1980’s, is not afraid of the challenge ahead of him. As a Tea Party candidate he made a run for the U.S. Senate in 2010 and in 2012 went after the State Land Commissioner. While he did lose both battles, he did gain some notable endorsements — Sarah Palin and Rep. Ron Paul among them. “Everyone I talk with seems to share an uneasiness about this time in America. It’s an uneasiness about our future,” Didier said. “Even though they can’t put their finger on it, everyone seems to know it centers on the size and scope of the federal government. It has to change and we need those willing to take the tough votes to change it. I am.”
