Civil rights hero Harvey Milk added another first to his name on what would have been his 84th birthday.
On May 22nd, in honor of Harvey Milk Day, the White House unveiled a postal stamp in his honor. The “forever” stamp is based off of a black and white picture of Milk in front of his Castro Street Camera Store in 1977 with the pride rainbow flag colors stacked squarely in the upper left corner.
Milk, who was the first openly gay person elected to public office in California, was gunned down at City Hall in 1978.
