Today’s installment of campaign-related news items that won’t necessarily generate a post of their own, but may be of interest to political observers:
* Ohio’s gubernatorial race began in earnest yesterday when Cuyahoga County Executive Ed FitzGerald, widely seen as the Democratic frontrunner, launched his exploratory committee.
* In Michigan’s suddenly-wide-open U.S. Senate race, Rep. Gary Peters (D) acknowledged that he’s “very interested” in running. On the Republican side, Rep. Candice Miller is passing on the race, but corporate attorney Scott Romney, Mitt Romney’s brother, is reportedly weighing a bid.
* In Kentucky, the Huffington Post reports that Actor Ashley Judd has “told key advisers and political figures” that she’ll kick off a U.S. Senate campaign in the spring.
* Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin was the subject of some retirement rumors, but the Illinois Democrat made clear yesterday that he will seek re-election.
