Today’s installment of campaign-related news items that won’t necessarily generate a post of their own, but may be of interest to political observers:
* Following a week of deceptive rhetoric from Mitt Romney and his campaign, President Obama’s campaign released a new video fact-checking the now-infamous out-of-context quote.
* The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee outraised their Republican counterparts on the second quarter, $8 million to $4.4 million.
* It’s widely assumed that North Carolina will flip from “blue” to “red” at the presidential level in 2012, but the latest Civitas Institute poll in the state shows Romney’s lead over the president at only one point, 49% to 48%.
* In Virginia’s closely watched U.S. Senate race, Quinnipiac shows George Allen (R) inching ahead of Tim Kaine (D), 46% to 44%.
* In the state of Washington, a new poll shows former Rep. Jay Inslee (D) taking the lead over Attorney General Rob McKenna (R) for the first time, 43% to 36%. * In Connecticut’s U.S. Senate race, former Rep. Chris Shays is in a heated Republican primary with former wrestling executive Linda McMahon, and yesterday, Shays said he won’t support his GOP rival if she wins the party’s primary. * In New Mexico’s U.S. Senate race, PPP shows Rep. Martin Heinrich (D) with a five-point lead over former Heather Wilson (R), 48% to 43%. * A field of candidates is taking shape in Michigan’s 11th congressional district, where a special election is coming up to fill the vacancy left by former Rep. Thad McCotter (R). The seat is expected to remain in Republican hands.
