Today’s installment of campaign-related news items that won’t necessarily generate a post of their own, but may be of interest to political observers:
* President Obama’s re-election campaign and the DNC raised $53 million in March, with an average contribution was $50.78. The monthly total is up from the $45 million raised in February.
* Speaking of campaign fundraising, an anonymous donor has contributed $10 million to Karl Rove’s Crossroads GPS, to run attack ads smearing the president in 2012. Because Crossroads is not required to disclose donors, we’ll probably never know who or what made the $10 million contribution.
* Mitt Romney’s search for a running mate has begun in earnest, with longtime adviser Beth Myers overseeing the review process.
* Fifteen-term incumbent Rep. Ed Towns (D-N.Y.) has reportedly decided to retire at the end of the year.
* Will Arizona be in play for Obama in 2012? His campaign team certainly seems to think so. * Support for, and interest in, the Tea Party is clearly waning. * Newt Gingrich apparently still considers himself a presidential candidate, and hopes to get Rick Santorum’s endorsement. * And the Obama campaign decided to do another fact-check video — its third to date — following Romney’s speech to the NRA.
