Today’s installment of campaign-related news items from across the country.

* As members of the Democratic National Committee prepare to elect a new chair, House Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi has waded into the contest, throwing her support behind Wisconsin Democratic Party Chair Ben Wikler.

* Wikler’s principal rival, Minnesota’s Ken Martin, picked up a notable congressional endorsement of his own, when Democratic Rep. James Clyburn of South Carolina announced he’s backing Martin.

* The first national Gallup poll of Donald Trump’s second term found the president with a higher disapproval rating than approval rating. Gallup’s report on the results noted that Trump’s public standing is “below all other elected presidents dating back to 1953.” (Click the link for more information on the poll’s methodology and margin of error.)

* On the other hand, a Quinnipiac University poll released this week found the Democratic Party with a 57% unfavorable rating, which is the worst the party has fared since Quinnipiac started asking the question in 2008. Monday’s Campaign Round-Up, 8.25.25: RNC taps Florida’s Joe Gruters as its new chair

* In Michigan, former Republican Rep. Mike Rogers said he’s “strongly considering” running for the Senate again in 2026, now that incumbent Democratic Sen. Gary Peters is retiring. Rogers narrowly lost his first Senate bid last year, falling just short against Democratic Sen. Elissa Stokin.

* New Jersey is one of two states holding gubernatorial races this year, and one of the top contenders in the contest, Democratic Rep. Mikie Sherrill, wants the DNC to invest at least $10 million in the Garden State.

* And a new nonprofit organization, called Families Over Billionaires, kicked off its efforts this week, focusing on pushing back against the GOP’s tax cut plans. Politico reported that the initiative “will be backed by an eight-figure funding campaign, which will include advertising, rapid response and surrogate operations.”
