Today’s installment of campaign-related news items from across the country.
* The latest national NPR/PBS News/Marist Poll found Vice President Kamala Harris narrowly leading Donald Trump, 50% to 48%, among likely voters. (Click the link for information on the survey’s methodology and margin of error.)
* Harris’ campaign event in Wisconsin with Liz Cheney was quite striking, and if you have 20 minutes, the former Republican congresswoman’s remarks are well worth watching in their entirety.
* As the Democratic presidential campaign continues to target persuadable Republicans, Team Harris launched new ads this week featuring Matt McCaffery, a lifelong Pennsylvania Republican who voted for Trump in the past, explaining that he is supporting the vice president.

* Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz addressed a Muslim group called Emgage Action, and as NBC News reported, this was “the most direct pitch yet to conflicted Muslim and Arab voters” from the Democratic presidential campaign.
* New Hampshire is home to the nation’s most competitive gubernatorial race, and the latest Saint Anselm College Survey Center poll found former Republican Sen. Kelly Ayotte narrowly leading former Democratic Mayor Joyce Craig, 47% to 44%. The same poll found Harris leading Trump in the Granite State, 51% to 44%. * The New York Times reported that Republican Rep. Mike Lawler was photographed wearing blackface in 2006. The New York congressman, facing a tough re-election campaign, told the newspaper, “I am a student of history and for anyone who takes offense to the photo, I am sorry.” After the article ran, Lawler also appeared on CNN and said he didn’t think the incident should be “construed” as blackface.
* George Conway’s Anti-Psychopath PAC launched a new ad this week labeling Trump the “D.E.I.” candidate — but instead of “diversity, equity and inclusion,” the political action committee describes the Republican nominee as “deranged, egomaniacal and incompetent.”
* At his latest campaign event in Michigan, Trump “congratulated” local voters because they “now” live in a border state. (Michigan has been a border state since its founding nearly 188 years ago.)
* And rock legend Bruce Springsteen released a video endorsing Harris and calling Trump “the most dangerous candidate for president in my lifetime.”
