Today’s installment of campaign-related news items that won’t necessarily generate a post of their own, but may be of interest to political observers:
* As the Republican establishment continues to coalesce around Mitt Romney, the former governor picked up an endorsement this morning from House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (R-Wis.). Ryan announced his support on Fox News.
* A new NBC News/Marist poll in Wisconsin shows Romney with a seven point lead over Rick Santorum, 40% to 33%, with just a few days to go before the state’s GOP primary,
* The same NBC News/Marist poll, by the way, shows President Obama leading Romney in Wisconsin by 17 points, 52% to 35%.
* Also of note, the same poll found Wisconsin voters split over Gov. Scott Walker’s (R) recall, with a narrow plurality supporting a Democratic replacement.
* In still more Wisconsin news, Team Santorum hasn’t given up on the state altogether, at least not yet. Santorum’s super PAC has increased its ad buy in the Badger State to $660,000. The former senator will still be heavily outspent by Romney. * If the GOP nominating race is still underway in June, Romney shouldn’t have too much trouble winning California: the latest USC Dornsife/Los Angeles Times poll shows him leading Santorum by 19 points. * And speaking of California, astronaut Jose Hernandez is running for Congress in the Golden State, but his opponents don’t want him to list “astronaut” as his profession. The Democratic candidate put together an amusing video in response.
