The Detroit News reported Tuesday that Michigan Governor Snyder will veto the gun bill that would have allowed concealed weapons in gun-free zones including schools and churches:
The bill allowing highly trained gun owners to carry concealed weapons inside public schools was delivered to Snyder’s desk Tuesday.
“He’s not going to sign it,” [State Sen. Mike] Green told The Detroit News.
According to the bill’s sponsor, Mike Green, Snyder will veto the ban because it does not allow schools to opt out of the law. A loophole in the bill allows private property owners to declare gun-free zones, but gave no such rights to schools.
The bill was one of hundreds passed during the Republican-controlled lame duck session of the Michigan legislature, which drew protests over a wildly unpopular right-to-work bill that passed and was signed.
