NBC News has learned that George Zimmerman, represented by his attorney Mark O’Mara, will file a motion to have the costs associated with his defense refunded to him by the State of Florida. These expenses include expert witness fees, travel, court reporter fees for depositions and other similar items. The costs do not include attorneys fees for representation.
Zimmerman and his legal team believe they are entitled to the refund in costs because Zimmerman was acquitted. He was found not guilty of second-degree murder and manslaughter in the death of Trayvon Martin by a Florida jury in July. He pleaded not guilty, saying he shot the unarmed 17 year old in self-defense after the teen attacked him.
